Our Week

A short review of our week out of order:

Rhaevyn held another tea party for the little girls yesterday. She made them this lovely little dessert to go along with it. I got a picture after half of it was gone.

This is our body artist. In the past month she has had a blue ankle and foot, a purple face, a green hand and arm, and now this. On this particular day brown and purple were her colors of choice.

We were notified Wednesday night that the college would be on a two hour last start, and Aeva received an email from her Japanese teacher about it as well. So what we could gather was that Aeva would not have her Japanese class, and if the roads were clear then I would take Rheavyn to class in the afternoon. Apparently the college changed their mind at 4:15 am and decided to have classes as normal.  It didn't occur to either Aeva or me that we should check to see if that decision had change since listening to the news it sounded like roads were slick. We now know we need to check to see if things change. Aeva didn't attend her class, but I don't think I would have felt comfortable traveling on the reads at 8:30 in the morning. If Chris tells me the roads were slippery when he left for work I know they are bad because he usually has no problem driving when it snows up here.

When I took Rhaevyn to her class Aeva played trains with Meg at home.

We had about four/five separate snow storms this past week. It snowed Sunday all day and night. It snowed all day Tuesday, but luckily it didn't stick on the road at all so I was able to get the girls to and from school without any problem. The flakes were so fat and fluffy. It was magical, but the snow usually melted by the time I needed to go anywhere. Then it snowed Wednesday evening, and then off and on Thursday and Friday with no snow sticking on those days at all.

I finished the last of the quilts for this round.

I forgot to post this last time, but I thought this was hilarious. Rhaevyn made brownies two Sundays ago, and Myles posted a sign on his so that no one would eat his brownie square before he was ready to east it.

These pictures were taken when we drove the girls to school on Tuesday morning and on the way back home from dropping them off.

Myles is in to oragami right now. He loves making origami parrots and dinosaurs. He made a parrot for the ladies who work at our bank. It was blue, and they put it on one of the computers as their mascot. They were so nice to let him know how much they appreciated his kind gesture.

In other news:

Rhaevyn and Aeva registered for spring quarter. Aeva got the classes that she wanted.....Creative Writing, Japanese (her final class for this subject offered at the local college) and Guitar. Rhaevyn was not as lucky. She is on the waiting list for Psychology, she didn't get into her Philosophy class because it was so full, and she is still waiting on the code to get into her Choir class. She needed one more five credit class so she opted for a Geography class. We are hoping she ends up liking it.


Myles informed me the other day that he finished Animal Farm. I didn't even know he was reading it. Aeva talked him into reading it as it is a favorite of both her and Rhaevyn. Myles  really enjoyed reading it, and we had a great discussion about it.

Valentine Video

This is a cute little video from Valentine's Day of Meg and her friend KK that was put together by KK's mom.

Sunny Weather and Blue Skies

 We had a pause in the rainy weather. We had a few days of beautiful gorgeous blue skies and sunshine, but it has been bitterly cold as well. We didn't let the cold stop us from getting outdoors though.
With not a cloud in the sky we could see Mt. Hood and beautiful snow covered Mt. St Helens.

 

 


 On Monday Rhaevyn suggested we go walk Lewisville Park. We only encountered a few others while at the park. We loved getting out in the sunshine, although, by the time we headed home I could not feel my fingers, toes, or my nose.

 We had fun collecting rocks for painting, skipping rocks, playing on the playground equipment, sword fighting, singing and skipping through the park, listening to the wonderful sound of the rushing river, soaking up the warm sun, and just enjoying time spent with  each other and making a memory.

Watching these two laughing and swinging together reminds me of when Rhaevyn and Aeva were little and I would take them to swing at the school playground. Oh how time flies.

Rhaevyn wanted to make sure she had a picture with her and Myles. When she spreads her wings and flies he is going to miss her greatly.

The kids weren't tired after Lewisville so they came home and jumped on the trampoline. 

I forgot to mention that we watched the Olympic opening ceremony. Rhaevyn was extra excited to watch it because the Olympics are in South Korea. We were commenting to each other that we were watching history in the making with North and South Korean Olympians walking in under one flag. That was pretty neat to watch.


Valentine's Day was great! Aeva spent time making pop up Valentine's cards for a few girls in her Laurel class at church. Meg insisted at church on Sunday that Jesus would like Sister Lee to have some Chocolate Chip cookies, so Meg made her a card and cookies the day before Valentine's. Myles opted to mail Sister Lee his card. Elsa made a card for a friend in her Primary class. I picked two special cards; one for Rhaevyn and one for Aeva and mailed them. They were so surprised when Myles got back from checking the mail on Valentine's Day that they had mail!!!
Chris and I made each other cards. I think he outdid me this year. The kids couldn't wait for me to open his, and they all got a kick out of the card he made. 💓

Last Sunday at church Meg's best buddy asked her about five times if she would be his Valentine's. He had heard his parent's talking about Valentine's Day, and didn't completely grasp the subject, but apparently he practiced asking Meg while getting ready for church. Rhaevyn said Meg never answered him during Primary because she was off in her own little world. When his family was driving out of the church parking lot Meg saw them and began to wave. They stopped and rolled down the window, and I was filled in on the story of the Valentine's proposal. Her buddy, KK, asked again. This time Meg yelled to him "Yes!" On the way home from church I asked if she wanted to make a card for KK. She said, " yes" and that KK needed chocolate chip cookies too, with milk. She was very adamant about what kind of cookies she wanted to make for him.

This happened Tuesday afternoon and has got to be the sweetest thing ever:

 
 
 KK gave Meg chocolates and a rose he made out of Legos. Meg  did give him homemade chocolate chip cookies, which we learned are one of the few treats he really likes and will eat. These two have been best friends since they were in nursery together and are so sweet together.

 

 
 
Rhaevyn commanded me to stay in bed on Valentine's Day. This is what she brought in for me. Meg sat and shared it with me. Rhaevyn is so good to me :)

 

 Rhaevyn also made some Voltron Valentine's for her siblings.

 

 

 Myles wrote me a note in the snow:

This was part of Aeva's Valentine's to Rhaevyn: It is a character from Voltron that she thinks Rhaevy is most like.

While Rheavyn was at her choir class Wednesday evening, the young men of the ward left this on our doorstep for her (minus the carnation)

The carnation was actually given to her in her choir class. One of the gentleman in the class brought a bucketful of carnations and gave one to each of the women in the class and told all of them that they were appreciated and he was glad they were all a part of the class.

The kids are really enjoying the old movies I've been finding at the library and can't wait to see what I bring home next. These are what we watched since the last post: Blue skies with Fred Astaire and Bing Crosby, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty with Danny Kaye, and The Best Years of Our Lives.

 The binding is done on this one. I  finished one quilt. Yay!!!!

This is one of the songs that Rhaevyn has been practicing just because she likes the sound of it. She says I didn't catch her doing a very good job of it, but it is the only way I can record anything.............when she isn't suspecting me. I have to be super sleuth about it. It is called Spootiskerry and is from the Shetland Islands.

 

Hard to believe we went from blue skies and sunshine on Monday to snow on Wednesday and Sunday. These were all from yesterday (Sunday).

Getting ready to leave for church. Snow had fallen overnight and had already melted by noon. This was our second snow shower of the day.

Christopher is doing another welding job for a church member's chiropractic office. This is Chris's third mechanism he's helped build for the guy. The girls register for Spring quarter this week, and fingers crossed they get in to all the classes they want this time around. 

Aeva did really well on her Japanese mid-term exam. She was so nervous for the speaking portion, but Chris gave her a blessing and we all said a prayer for her and the classmate she was paired with. They were the first to go on Tuesday morning. Her partner for the exam paid her a very nice compliment; saying that she was much more confident in her speaking than he was. The exam consisted of three portions. On the written and speaking portion Aeva scored more points than the test was worth. However, on the third portion she missed four points. She was happy over all with her outcome. We were happy for her that it went smoothly.

And the big exciting news o the week...............................

Rhaevyn's passport came!!!!! Sigh of relief!
