Closing Out May

Starting off the post with these two best buds:

KK's mom took these today at church. When I popped into the Beehive class to drop off roll and birthday treats she was telling me about a conversation she had with KK after Sacrament meeting.
These two cuties always seem to be dressed in somewhat coordinating colors. When KK's mom commented on this he responded "Of course, because we're sweethearts."

There is never a Sacrament meeting that goes by where Meg doesn't look around for her best-friend to make sure he's there.

We are slowly putting together Elsa's costumes with her very own things for Scottish Dancing. We now have one blouse, two dickies, black and white kick pants, and gillies. We're still borrowing a kilt, vest, and suspenders. Yesterday we drove Elsa to Portland for a second class this week and to see about a National costume for the Lilt. This is the costume she'll get to wear for the Lilt at this summer's competitions. It has only been worn twice. Another dancer had gotten it in Scotland, but outgrew it by the time she made it home to the states. It is absolutely gorgeous!!. We feel really blessed that her teacher is letting her borrow it!

I feel pretty good that I was able to make two dickies. I think they turned out rather well.
I had Elsa try them out with her blouse and vest.

She's been practicing her little heart out getting ready for the Tacoma Highland Games. She now knows all the steps for the beginner Sean Truibhas. Now it's just nailing down the small details.

What's a blog post without Molly????

She even got a cute little pink bow on her tail at the groomer's this time.

We put Molly in the very back of the car on the way to the groomer's. I think she rather liked it because she had big windows to look out of.

I was given a geranium for my birthday and it is starting to bloom.

Elsa checked out some drawing books from the library. She's been working on drawing dogs:

Rhaevyn has been trying out new recipes. Key Lime pie was one of them. It was sooo delicious!

It's rather fun seeing three people in the bathroom at once  trying to get ready for church.

A friend of mine was getting rid of the newest and latest in stamps and inks. The kids have been having a blast using them. Chris and Elsa sat down one night and each made a card.

I hard boiled six eggs last week and made a small batch of deviled eggs. They were so yummy!

Aeva played makeup with Meg, and Meg thought that was so fun!

Meg wanted Rhaevyn to build with the Jenga blocks with her.

I made a french custard using blueberries (it called for blackberries)using almond flour. I thought it was really good with a small dollop of whipped cream.

I took two quilt tops up to the quilters on Thursday and finished another quilt top, which I really am very disappointed in. I won't even post a picture. It was made out of scraps, and I think I'm going to scrap it. Sigh.
I was discussing quilts with the quilter and she was telling me how much she's missed doing quilts for me because of the special feeling that she gets when she does them. That really touched me.
I'm hoping to get two more quilt tops done in the next two weeks.
Myles is needing to upgrade to a bigger cello. I think we have his sold. So, we'll do one more lesson to finish out this month, and then he may have a small hiatus while we figure out getting him a bigger cello.
We've been having fun watching old movies, new movies, and documentaries this past week. Two that I really enjoyed were Temple Grandin and Jiro Dreams of Sushi.

They Say It's My Birthday...

 

 It was my birthday this week. It is interesting being closer to 50 now than 40. I'm not really bothered by it. Maybe that is because I don't physically or mentally feel like I've reached that point. I joke that I don't feel grown up and responsible like other people seem to me to be. It somehow always seemed like it would take a very long time to reach my late 40's, when I was younger, but it's funny how I seemed to have gotten here a lot faster than previously imagined.
I kept having to actually remind myself that it was my birthday. There was still homeschool to do, cello lessons for Myles, dance lessons for Elsa, etc. No rest for the birthday girl. It was kind of like every other day, except for presents 😁

I wanted one picture to document my birthday.

 

However, Rhaevyn, Aeva, and Elsa had their mind set on a photo shoot of sorts. There was a lot of laughter involved and some sweet compliments. The sun was really bright!

 Also, for my birthday, I painted my fingernails and toenails........blue was in the cards:

 

 

 
I got this quilt all cut out and laid the pieces out so I could see what, if anything, I wanted to rearrange or change. I think I may change the squares in the corners. There is something about them that is just not sitting right with me. I really like the colors though. Joann's was having a great sale on batting........60% off!! What a deal! Plus Aeva had a coupon for me to use. I got enough batting for at least four quilts.

I've got to finish the monkey quilt! I've put it off long enough. Then I have at least two cut and ready to sew together, and four other quilts are waiting to be cut out. Busy, busy, busy. My quilter said she would help me get these done, and I'm really so grateful for that. 

Rhaevyn was sweet to make me a sugar cream pie that I could eat. She was very skeptical, but I was extremely confident, that it would work and be edible. Rhaevyn won on the outcome. I ended up just making myself some dark chocolate cheesecake mouse, and then on the way home from dance lessons I picked up cupcakes for everyone else. The kids just could not fathom having my birthday without a treat, candles, and singing happy birthday to me.

The kids were sweet to do little things for me all day and even gave me some sweet gifts....

Aeva wrote me two poems that she typed out and illustrated. She also got me these cute sticky notes. I use a lot of sticky notes.

Rhaevyn gave me her rose perfume (she is allergic to it) and some awesome headphones. I'm so excited about the rose perfume because it's my favorite, and they don't make it anymore.

Here I am trying the headphones out. I was using my phone as a microphone and singing to the kids. It was making them laugh.

Myles's experiment:

 Wednesday morning, bright and early, I went back in to have a nice clean margin made/taken on my knee. It went a lot quicker than the first round, and I didn't feel sick this time. That was a positive. I came home and put some ice on the incision. Molly assumed her position.

 
 

That afternoon I took Elsa to her violin lessons. I hung out in the car with my legs up, ice pack, and made mother's day cards.

I was feeling well until one in the morning. My knee was too painful to get back to sleep. Thursday was probably the worst day. By Friday it was feeling better, although it was not looking like it was on the upwards swing. Monday I get the stitches removed.

Myles had a western swing dancing youth activity this week. He wanted Rheavyn to come, and she was asked, by those hosting it, to come help. They had a great time, and Rheavyn said Myles was an excellent dance partner. Apparently, he was brave and asked several young ladies to dance.

Elsa had a mother daughter tea to attend, but it was the day my knee was not doing well. Aeva was excited, and willing, to be able to attend in my place.They both dressed up and had a lot of fun.

The other night, as I had my leg up with ice, I took these photos of Molly. She was asleep, but her mouth was open enough to see some of her teeth. I must have been really tired because I laughed so hard I had tears.

At this point I was laughing so hard I woke her up.

Two Celebrations in one week.............my birthday aaaannnndddd Mother's Day!!

I'm so blessed to be able to celebrate this special day with these wonderful and awesome human beings who remind me constantly how very blessed I am to be their mother. Love these guys to the end of the immense and expansive universe and back!!🚀

It's so hard to get everyone to smile and look in the right direction at once, especially when you only have a few minutes for pictures; plus we were never quite sure when Chris was actually pressing the button to take the picture. I'll take what I can get though 😀

Rhaevyn made me a sweet card and got my favorite coconut candy.

**I'm currently in the kitchen with Chris listening to all the kiddos in Myles's room; they are listening to classical music, talking, laughing, and someone just said "pass the glue." I wonder what they could be making???

Chris made me an awesome Mother's Day card and then danced with me "Fred Astaire" style to Dream, Moonlight Serenade, and Moonglow. It was wonderful!! And he also folded four baskets of laundry for me. That was heavenly 👼

Myles made dinner for everyone so that I didn't have to😊

Elsa and Aeva gave me their cards at dinnertime. The cards were full of love and sweet words 💕

 Rhaevyn painted rocks this weekend while Aeva painted a cute little birdhouse and her pen jars (Nutella jars).
