Bye Bye September

Another great week, and we've landed in October already!

The little chicks are growing by leaps and bounds. Most are getting their tail feathers already. They are so cute!! I like to go out and hold them and sing to them. I sing  'Zip A Dee Doo Dah'  to Zippy, 'Edelweiss' to Dot, and we like to sing 'Hello Dolly' to Dolly. Oh, and Myles sings the song, by Paul Simon, 'You Can Call Me Al'.......that is how he came up with Betty's name.

This is Pumpkin.........the last chick we bought (she's a Buff Orpington).

 

Myles and I signed up for an online class about tools taught by Ben Napier. He's a woodworker who does the show Hometown and founder of Scotsman Co. It was pretty interesting. I am not sure Myles learned anything new, but I did. At the end you were supposed to take a selfie to win a really cool hammer. You had to have Instagram, which we don't have (bummer), so Myles didn't get to enter for a chance to win the hammer. Here is his selfie though.

These two crack me up. I had made some cauliflower rice for my dinner, and the little girls saw that there was still some left in the pan. They rushed over to gobble it up!

The weather has been positively beautiful, so we decided to spend some more time at Lewisville Park.

We didn't make these huge rock towers, but I thought they were cool.

 

 The really cool part about our time at Lewisville Park was that we got to see at least a dozen fish trying to swim up stream. I think we probably spent a good 20 minutes just watching them. It was so neat!! Myles tried to get pretty close to them. We think, maybe, they were Salmon.

 

 I tried a new recipe. Cherry tomatoes, mild Italian sausage, onions, green peppers, and asparagus sprinkled with Italian seasoning and a drizzle of olive oil.... then baked in the oven. It was scrumptious!

Myles is transforming part of our backyard for the coop. He moved two of the garden boxes, and then he dug out a section for the coop. The cornerstone has been put in place, but I don't have a picture of that yet.

I'll end with pictures of Molly. She can be so cute at times, and such a character at others. She's very interested in the chickies. She waits at the laundry room/garage door and whimpers when I'm out in the garage with the chicks. She has escaped on occasion when we open the door to go out to the garage in the hopes of investigating what the feathery things are that we hold and talk to so sweetly. It will be interesting to see how she reacts to them when they are grown and out in the coop. We hope she'll behave, but I think we may have to do some vigorous training with her when they are moved out to their future home.
