A Bookmark Contest, a Book Fair, and I love You

Let's start with Saturday:
That afternoon there was an event for those who had entered bookmarks in the library bookmark contest. Aeva got an honorable mention. This is her bookmark. Chris took it to work and laminated it for her. Way to go Aeva!

Sunday:
Father's Day!! Meg enjoyed sharing Christopher's breakfast with him in bed. I was pretty sure this would happen so I made lots of food. All the kids picked out something for him. Aeva picked out a Japanese Anime shirt for him. She has one similar and wanted them to match. Rhaevyn got him Red Vines and made sure they were not stale. Elsa  and Myles picked out a couple of his favorite candies from See's. Elsa was excited that she donated two pennies to that purchase.   

Monday:
Myles went to the zoo with Sister Lee and her son Sean, who was Myles's Primary teacher last year. It was Sean's birthday, so they thought they'd invite Myles. He had a blast. He got to give a dollar bill to a vulture, pet a tortoise, and got to pick out keepsake from the zoo store.  Needless to say he had a blast.
Then we spent the evening walking and playing at Lewisville Park.
 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 
 

Tuesday:
 At 8am I dropped Rhaevyn off at the church building for girl's camp. We are hoping she has been able to stay dry up at camp. She is in her own little tent and went as a leader instead of a YCL. She is teaching a class on nutrition because the YCL's did not get the message that she was a leader this year. She agreed to help them out with that. I think she is supposed to be working in the kitchen a lot to help out her old Beehive teacher, which I she was excited about. We pick her up Saturday at 5pm. I can't wait, as I've missed her! I told her that I started missing her before she even left and tried not to cry on the drive to drop her off.
We also got our sign for our front yard for Shane Bowman. He was the mayor of our city and is running for  state representative of our district. Thought we'd show some support for him:

Wednesday:
I helped out with a family that used to be in our ward. The mom has cancer, and I was helping to take care of their five children. I took Elsa and Meg with me. I was totally wiped out when I got home. Meanwhile, Myles spent the day over at Sister Lee's and got a lesson on how to wash a dog. He always comes back with a wealth of knowledge.

Thursday:
Aeva wanted to get out of the house and decided it would be fun to go the Scholastic Warehouse Book Fair. We took Sister Lee with us and had a great time. I picked up two books, Aeva found one of her favorite books for really cheap, and Myles found a Lego contraption kit. It has kept him busy since he got it.
Aeva and I redid her (and Rhaevyn's) room. We are hoping Rhaevyn isn't too upset when she gets home. Aeva definitely takes after me; she likes to move things around.

Friday:
Aeva decided it was her turn to spend the day at Sister Lee's.
I'm working on getting school stuff ready for the fall. I waited until the last minute last year, although I had good intentions. This time around I didn't want to procrastinate.

I'll leave you with this little gem....
We just love how she says "I love you". She says it out of the blue and usually will put someone's name before it.............."Mom, I love you"; "Aeva, I love you." Just the cutest and sweetest thing. Melts my heart.

And one last thing:
A sweet mom put a post on the Facebook page for Project Mother of an Angel Baby. I cried as I read it. I've never had a post like it. Although I don't expect any recognition, I do always wonder if the quilts make a difference or if they are received well.

Sewing Session and Uncle Bob

This past week was a relatively quiet one.
I helped Aeva make her other two skirts, and she's as happy as a lark to now have three skirts to wear to church. She was so happy about it that she gave me a long explanation of why it is much better to just make your own skirts. She makes my heart smile................well, they all do :)
    

The ruffle for this skirt did not turn out as good as the one Grandma Lindsay helped her do. I need more practice I think.

Then we spent time trying to find a white sweater to go with her skirts. Finally found one on sale (online) and picked it up at Target. Then we just needed shoes. We ended up returning the really cute ones because they just didn't fit quite right. So, we spent several hours tracking down a pair of Mary-Janes, which is so hard when you have such small feet. Finally found those too.................well sort of. We have to wait for them to come in at the store and do a final try on. Our fingers are crossed. I'm hoping they work because they were just the right price with a coupon!

I had a sudden burst of inspiration and made a skirt for Meg. I absolutely love it!! It turned out a little different than I had first envisioned because I underestimated how tall Meg was. I am happy with the end result, and I made it out of fabric scraps from the quilt that Elsa helped to make.

 Here she is all dressed up eating her blueberries from our friends. They brought a bowlful over just for her.

Christopher's Uncle, Bob, came to visit Sunday afternoon. He stayed the evening and left this morning after he and Chris had breakfast. It was a really nice visit, and we were all glad to finally meet him. Meg was excited about his motorbike and got to sit on it after he pulled it into the garage. She came running to the front window yelling "motorbike, motorbike!"

This week, I think, will be relativity low key. Next week Rhaevyn heads off to camp, and Aeva gets impressions done for her retainer. That means her braces come off in two weeks. She is on pins and needles.

Grandma and Grandpa Came to Visit

We've had four days of doing some really fun things, spending quality time, and making some wonderful memories with Christopher's parents this last week.

 

 

 Myles was super excited about all the old Legos they brought, and he had fun building Legos with Grandpa.
 

 

Grandma sewed Elsa a doll with a carrying case, a robe, a dress, and some overalls.
Grandma and Aeva worked on a skirt together. It turned out super cute.

 

 

 

 Thursday evening we had a hotdog and marshmallow roast.

 

 

Chris and his dad went to a VW bug show on Saturday. I think they had a great time despite the heat.

Aeva got to chauffeur Grandpa and Chris to Harbor Freight and Grandma and I to the store. Grandma and Grandpa were good sports about it and had encouraging words for her :)

The kids got to go swimming twice. That was such a treat. They had a blast, and on the second night of swimming I had fun doing swim races with Aeva and Myles down to the deep end. Myles even dove into the deep end and swam to the shallow end all on his own. Myles was trying to help Elsa swim. Aeva, Myles, and Elsa had fun jumping into the pool together at the same time. Lots of splashes and laughter were had.

 

 We hated to see them go, as the time seemed to go by too quickly, but hope they enjoyed their time with us as much as we did with them.

 Myles has been wanting to make a stuffed animal. I had been given some really soft fabric and Myles decided it had to be done before Grandma and Grandpa arrived. So, last Monday he went to Sister Lee's house to get help. Myles got to sew some of his turtle, and it turned out really cute and really big! I made a big pillow to fit inside of it. It's almost as big and Myles.

 
 The girls spent some time working on the car with Chris learning to change the oil and put on new belts. Meg kicked back in the front seat and read the owner's manual.

 

 

Anytime Chris is moving one of the cars Meg wants a ride. His bug pretty much seems like a jungle gym or playground to her. She loves hoping in and out of it.

 

 Seminary is out, school books have been finished, driving classes are over............time for Summer!

Final note for this post:
Saturday I received a very sweet thank you card from the Chaplain services and Family Birth Center at Legacy Salmon Creek Hospital for the quilt donation in March. To briefly quote:
"....Your gift is such a comfort to mothers in our community who are grieving the death of their angel baby. When I offered a quilt to a grieving mom this month she asked me to please tell you how much it means to her, and she will cherish the quilt."

I couldn't get through reading the card without tears. I'm so thankful for all those who have helped in so many ways with Project Mother of an Angel Baby.
